Is BBMP missing large formats for citizen outreach initiatives?

By M4G Bureau - November 19, 2018

Social media is the only alternative for the urban local body to engage the people of Bengaluru for the city ranking survey

In the face of the city of Bengaluru scoring rather poorly in the Swachh Survekshan Survey securing the 216th and 210th ranks in the last two years, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning a major campaign to engage the city dwellers in improving the city ranking. In the Swachh Survekshan Survey, citizen feedback account for a fourth of the survey marks. And, this year on cities will not be given ranks but 'star rating systems' and top rating will fetch seven stars.

Now, as BBMP plans to reach out to the city dwellers, it might be constrained for want of large formats in the city that could have been used to run massive campaigns for obtaining citizen feedback. It emerges that the urban local body is having to lean on social media to drive this campaign.

A Deccan Chronicle report has quoted a BBMP official saying that as outdoor advertising  is banned in the city, the civic body will have to solely rely on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. on these platforms BBMP will create awareness on the recent measures taken to keep the city clean, garbage management, segregation etc.
