Hand painted billboards make rare appearance

By M4G Bureau - February 06, 2018

Mural painters like The Walldogs in the US are keeping alive the traditional art of hand-painted billboards; mural paintings are also giving city landscapes an aesthetic look

The Walldogs, who call themselves a ‘different breed of muralists’ are consciously keeping alive the tradition of murals on street facing walls. Based in the US, the Walldog Movement is seen as a great way for small towns to boost their tourism. The Walldogs are also occasionally engaged in hand-painting billboards for branding and to amplify particular causes.

The Times, London has reported that “on a wall in Brooklyn a team of artists laboured over a massive new painting, working from rigs to render it with brushstrokes on the brickwork.”

“It was art with a message that lonely young men and women could find love with the help of an online dating company. Similar giant paintings have appeared in New York in the past year, suggesting that viewers should run in Adidas trainers, fly with Delta and make more of their Samsung phones,” the report states.
