Delhi Govt approves Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007

By M4G Bureau - April 05, 2019

Urban local bodies will draft a policy for sites falling on public places within 2 months after completion of general elections

Delhi GovernmentFinally, the Delhi Government has given the nod to enforce the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007 in the capital. This act has been prepared by the Delhi’s Urban Development Department, in compliance with the orders of the High Court of Delhi. The aim is to clean the city landscape by removing unauthorized hoardings covering public property. As per the act, the existing unauthorized structures will be removed by the urban local bodies in a special drive within 24 hours.

The authority has allotted a set of powers to the urban local bodies (ULBs). Primarily, the ULBs will be identifying three sites per ward to display political & social messages in public places.

Secondly, ULB will finalize the details of authorized sites along with the terms & conditions and also make a policy for them within two months after the completion of the general election.

As reported earlier on Media4Growth, this is being done to combat the menace of unauthorized outdoor media in isolated parts of Delhi and the civic body officials are viewing this as a positive step in that direction.
